The big day is slowly getting closer and Berlin Festival 2007 is gradually taking shape. You`ve probably marked July 27th and 28th with a big cross on your calendar, now you just have to buy your festival ticket and the summer can arrive. The early bird catches the worm!

After Festival Stage

Admission to the After Festival Stage is of course included in your festival ticket, where the party will again kick off in style. Put ya hands up for Berlin..! On both days the After Festival Stage is located in the nearby TAPE club. TAPE is only open since the beginning of 2007 and, like almost everything at the BERLIN FESTIVAL, it is the brand new, hot shit. Rocking over two to three floors, the Berlin bear will dance until dawn. Knut is in da house! The line-up is a killer with 2Many Djs, DJ Mehdi, Karrera Klub, Berlin Allstars and many more. We will keep you updated.

Our line-up is now almost complete and has been extended in recent weeks and days by the great bands Tele, Late Of The Pier, Jape (his single was already covered by the Raconteurs) and Jolly Goods (produced by the producer of the Strokes).

Tele compose catchy tunes with ingenious lyrics which get stuck in heads and make bodies dance. Whether topping the bill in packed clubs, where they always manage to break down the barrier between band and public with charming commentary; whether at festivals; or as support to Phoenix or Wir Sind Helden; the band shows how essential and enjoyable the live interpretation of their organically grown pop songs is every time. TV for the ears!

Jape’s music appears as a breeze of fresh air from Dublin. With his sense of humour, experimental stoner folk, and 8bit electronics, he has already convinced the V2 record label to sign him and the Raconteurs to cover his song ‘Floating’. We are already fans of course …

Two new bands are confirmed for the Vice Stage. One is the British Late Of The Pier, winning over members of the public who usually puke at such music with their glamorous wave pop. New Kids on the Block for the new rave generation.

Then there is also Jolly Goods, two shockingly young girls from a pocket of Bavaria who nobody has ever heard of. You know how it is – rock’n’roll is the most reliable rescue from suburban hell. This type of confident garage noise has never been made by German girls before. Or by German boys actually.

Since the fall of the wall, Berlin has developed into a metropolis of parties and music, open to all sorts of subcultures and trends. No longer playing catch-up to New York, London, Paris, and Barcelona: Berlin - a source of inspiration for artists of all kinds.

It is high time that a music festival in the city centre reflects this lust for life. Enter the Berlin Festival – into its third round with an updated and ‘urbanized’ feel…

We are presenting the relaunch of the festival, which will now take place in an exciting new location right in the heart of Berlin (Seydlitzstrasse) and directly around the corner from Hauptbahnhof, the main train station.

Despite this urbanity the festival site is an untouched city idyll boasting an abundance of nature, plenty of sporting activities (beach volleyball, soccer etc.) and many islands of calm. The location is also home to the city centre’s only campsite www.tentstation.de.

Another novelty is that this year the bands will take to the stage on Friday and Saturday. Last but not least Vice magazine is hosting the second stage, taking over from Moshi Moshi last year. Vice will bring its trademark mix of happening avant garde and electro to Berlin, presenting in-demand labels Ed Banger, Kitsuné, Modular, Institubes etc.

The Berlin Festival takes place on the 27th and 28th of July and 2-day tickets cost a very reasonable EUR 40. (Combined festival-camping tickets will be available for a limited period).

We are proud to announce the first confirmed acts for the main stage:

Hamburg legends Tocotronic will be showcasing their eagerly awaited album to be released early this summer, while the Queen of Rock Peaches will hit the stage with her unique show for an exclusive 2007 appearance in Germany. Nominated as Newcomer of the Year and simultaneously awarded Third Best Album by the respected German magazine Musikexpress in 2006, Midlake from Texas will make perhaps their only festival appearance in Germany this year. Currently finding favour with film director David Lynch, Au Revoir Simone will present their charming, unobtrusive synth-pop. Rounding off this first spate of acts is Peter Bjorn And John whose “Young Folks” was the indie hit of last year, and Datarock who will thrill the crowd with their wild mixture of danceable indie rock and funky electro beats.
Further acts are in the pipeline and will shortly be confirmed.

The Vice stage looks like:
MIT are the hottest supersonic noise that Germany has on offer at the moment. The Kilians are doing their high-school exams, come from the sticks (Dinslaken) and sound like the new Strokes. Shitdisco is a band that, alongside the Klaxons, has come to embody the term ‘nu rave’ like no other. After diverse tours in the UK, Europe and the USA without an album release, the long-awaited debut “Kingdom of Fear” will hoist them onto the world’s biggest stages. WhoMadeWho have by now taken their modern-electro-paired-with-70s-disco sound to clubs all over the world and have just finished recording an album due in the autumn. Ed Banger’s finest Uffie und her producer Feadz have grown from an underground act to global players. Their mix of Miami bass and pop is heading for the charts. The new-wave electro duo The Presets from Sydney are a forerunning Modular band. Words such as grime and The Streets spring to mind when listening to Yes Boss for the first time. A working class attitude and able songwriting create hits equal parts hip hop, garage and electro. X Vectors come from the scene surrounding the best known Scottish party promoters “Optimo” - soundwise the lads combine new-rave and à la Bauhaus classic wave.

All party heads take note - fitting Berlin, fantastic after-festival parties will follow in the city’s best clubs.

Yes, it’s all in the mix. Old or new, timeless or hip, indoor or outdoor, niche or mainstream - these opposites are always mentioned, but in the end are secondary. The music and the line-up are what really count and the Berlin Festival always chooses these with care and good taste. Hip newcomers like the Klaxons (2006) or old icons like Ian Brown (2005) are hailed. Berlin says thanks.
