Berlin Festival 2011 » Casper

Line Up 2011

German rappers’ hypocritical suburban gangster attitude inevitably led to a decrease in popularity. Casper, on his transgenre endeavours, tries to turn everything upside down. By wonderfully combining emo-laden melancholia and straight-forward indie guitar riffs with edgy and honest rhymes, he takes hip hop to the next level. The song “XOXO”, taken off the eponymous debut even shows that Benjamin Griffey thinks beyond standardised patterns by getting Thees Uhlmann, singer of the German band Tomte, on board. It perfectly fits – the revolution of German hip hop has begun.
